DC glow discharge

Gas discharges are used as a light sources in devices such as fluorescent lamps, plasma screen televisions, neon lights and lasers.

PLASIMO's time-dependent Drift-Diffusion module is used to simulate the DC glow discharge tube. The model captures accurately the cathode fall region, the negative glow, the Faraday dark space and positive column. Below is a screenshot of such a model.

In this example the plasma is created in helium gas at a pressure of 1 Torr and a temperature of 300 K. The discharge tube has an inner radius of 3.2 cm and electrode distance of 45 cm. The screenshot is taken when the steady state solution is reached.
